Hundreds of men traded in their everyday footwear for high heels in downtown Edmonton today, all to help families walk away from domestic violence.
City councillors, police officers, military personnel, and men and women from all walks of life tottered down 104 Street and Jasper Avenue for this year’s YWCA WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES® presented by SHOPPERS LOVE. YOU. Money raised from this annual fundraiser directly supports domestic violence prevention and recovery programs at YWCA Edmonton.
“Year over year, the number of domestic violence calls to Edmonton Police increases, but year over year, Edmontonians continue to give us hope with their generosity,” said Jackie Foord, CEO of YWCA Edmonton. “Together, we can get one step closer to changing the conversation around domestic violence and transforming lives for the better.”
In living their commitment to women’s health through SHOPPERS LOVE. YOU, once again, Shoppers Drug Mart stepped up as the presenting sponsor for YWCA WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES®, not just in Edmonton, but across the province in Calgary, Lethbridge, and Banff where the YWCA also operates.
“Shoppers Drug Mart is a proud supporter of women’s health,” said Todd Small, Vice President of Operations Alberta. “Over the years, Shoppers Drug Mart has put women’s health first by contributing millions of dollars on behalf of its customers, associate-owners and their store teams to local, regional and national women’s health initiatives.”
“We’re so grateful to everyone who spent a few uncomfortable minutes in high heels, so families affected by domestic violence can find lasting comfort, free from abuse,” said Foord.
