Unfinished Business: Accountability and Action on Gender Equity in Canada Panel Discussion

Join us for a powerful, forward-looking panel unpacking Canada’s commitments at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) — and what comes next. With the recent Canadian election behind us, now is the time to ask: how do we hold our country accountable for real, measurable gender equity progress?

This timely conversation will spotlight where Canada stands, where we fall short, and how civil society, youth leaders, and advocates can push for meaningful action. Focusing on accountability mechanisms for UN commitments, the panel brings together diverse voices ready to challenge complacency and push for change.

Featured Panelists:
– Erin Davis
– Lisa Feehan
– Francesca Ghossein
– Mabintou Ouattara

Hosted in partnership by YWCA and Business and Professional Women’s Club (BPW), this event is more than a discussion — it’s a rallying point for anyone committed to advancing gender equity in Canada.

Board Ready: Trustee Edition

Are you ready to bring your voice to the decision-making table? With Alberta’s municipal elections coming this October, there’s never been a better time for women to explore leadership and governance opportunities — starting with the vital role of school board trustee.

Join us on May 26 for an empowering panel discussion that demystifies the trustee role, explores why diverse women’s leadership matters, and equips you with the tools to launch a successful campaign.

You’ll hear from:
Dr. Vivian Abboud, CEO, Alberta School Boards Association
Trustee Julie Kusiek, Chair, Edmonton Public School Board
Trustee Sandra Palazzo, Chair, Edmonton Catholic School District

Moderated by: Katherine O’Neill, CEO, YWCA Edmonton

As part of YWCA Edmonton, DirectHER Network is committed to removing barriers and opening doors for women leaders across Alberta. This event is your chance to step forward, learn, and lead.

We are proud to partner with the Miller Gallery Peck Visual Art Program to present the Women in Art series. Hosted in our office, these exhibitions are open to the public on select dates and shine a spotlight on women’s artistic voices. This new series draws curatorial inspiration from YWCA Edmonton’s pillars of equity, opportunity, and choice, celebrating creativity that reflects and advances these values in our community.
