DESCRIPTION:Connect\, Grow\, and Have Fun!\nJoin us for an unforgettable weekend at YWCA Edmonton’s Camp Yowochas\, where adventure\, friendship\, and personal growth come together in a supportive and inclusive environment. \nDesigned for girls and gender-diverse youth ages 10 to 14\, this weekend-long sleepaway retreat offers the chance to experience the best of camp life while building confidence\, meaningful connections\, and leadership skills kids can use in school and everyday life. Without the social pressures that can exist in mixed-gender environments\, campers feel comfortable sharing their experiences\, asking questions\, taking healthy risks\, and developing confidence alongside peers who may share similar experiences and challenges. \nWhether they’re paddling across Lake Wabamun\, taking aim on the archery course\, singing karaoke\, learning around the campfire\, or participating in empowering workshops\, campers will leave with memories\, friendships\, and skills that last long after the weekend ends. \nThe retreat fee of $100 per person includes: \n\nRound-trip transportation from Westmount Mall in Edmonton to Camp Yowochas\n2-nights accommodation\nMeals throughout the weekend\n\nFee subsidies are available for eligible campers. In this fast-paced\, hands-on workshop\, campers will become young entrepreneurs as they dream up a product\, service\, or business of their own. They’ll brainstorm creative ideas\, design a plan\, think about their budget\, and practice pitching their business to the group. It’s a chance to get creative\, solve problems\, think like a leader\, and see how big ideas can become reality. \n  \n🎯 Be Entrepreneurial | Presented by Jessi Fersch\, Junior & Senior High Coordinator\, Junior Achievement Northern Alberta\nEvery successful business starts with an idea\, but it takes planning to make it thrive. In this engaging workshop\, campers will dive deeper into the world of entrepreneurship by exploring their target market\, identifying what makes their business unique\, and developing a stronger business plan. Now\, she has turned her talents to radio and can be heard every morning on the station she grew up listening to: 880 CHED. \nThe award-winning broadcaster loves to engage in stimulating conversations. She took a boat down someone’s street while covering Winnipeg’s Flood of the Century.\, and packed gas masks in her coverage of the G8 in Kananaskis. She has interviewed Prime Ministers and Premiers\, chatted with Rolling Stones legend Keith Richards\, pop star Tiffany\, and even made M.A.S.H. star Alan Alda laugh. \nStacey was also the host of the YWCA Edmonton podcast Searching for Izena\, introducing listeners to the female trailblazers at Edmonton City Hall. She loves chocolate and hates coffee\, but tea gets her through those 3 a.m. alarms for her gig as host of This Morning with Stacey Brotzel on 880 CHED. \n  \nAlexandra Ages | Policy Specialist\, Writer & Activist\nAlexandra Ages is a policy specialist and feminist writer whose work focuses on gender-based violence and structural inequality. With a Master of Public Policy\, she brings a trauma-informed\, intersectional lens to public systems and advocates for policies that challenge patriarchal norms and empower marginalized communities. Her writing appears in Policy Options\, The Tyee\, and the Broadbent Institute’s Perspectives Journal. From economic abuse to algorithmic misogyny\, Alexandra’s work examines how institutional structures perpetuate harm\, and how such structures can be transformed. A YWCA Edmonton 2025 Woman of Distinction\, she also has served on the national board of directors for the Ending Sexual Violence Association of Canada and is an advisor with the Canadian Poverty Institute. Her chapter on feminist criminology and gender-based violence\, “From Private Violence to Public Victims: Femicide\, Attempted Femicide\, and Mass Attacks in Canada” will be published in the upcoming anthology Murder in the Media: Portrayals of Femicide and Familicide this winter. \n  \nAshley Lim | Director of Counselling Services and Registered Psychologist\, YWCA Edmonton\nAshley Lim is the Director of Counselling Services\, a Registered Psychologist\, and Clinical Supervisor at YWCA Edmonton with over 15 years of experience. She specializes in supporting women and children impacted by domestic violence and works with diverse populations\, including BIPOC\, 2SLGBTQIA+ clients\, and individuals with disabilities. Ashley helped create Edmonton’s Integrated Domestic Violence Response Team (IDVRT) and co-chairs the Council of Service Providers with Community Initiatives Against Family Violence. She also contributes to YWCA Canada’s national Anti-Gender-Based Violence Network. Her leadership and service has earned her multiple awards\, including YWCA Canada’s Carolyn Bray Award and the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal. \n  \n \nNicolette Little | Critical Media Studies Researcher & Author\nDr. Nicolette Little is a multiple federally awarded critical media studies researcher whose work explores media activism to address gender-based violence (GBV)\, technology-facilitated violence\, and algorithmic and automated abuse. She advises the Canadian federal government\, media\, policing services\, and not-for-profits regarding media and GBV — and has stepped in to advise during moments of national crisis\, including in the aftermath of the so-called “Toronto Van Attack.” Among her multiple publications is her new book\, From Red Dresses to Memory Stones: Multimedia Activism and Gender-Based Violence in Canada\, which came out in June 2026\, with the University of British Columbia Press. Dr. Little has long taught with the University of Alberta’s Media and Technology Studies and Women’s and Gender Studies Programs\, and also recently served as director of the U of A’s Feminist Collaboratory and Data Visualization Centre. She recently joined McGill University for a time\, to complete additional research on social media interventions in dating violence.

She dedicated her life to global activism following the tragic loss of her 15-year-old daughter\, Amanda Todd\, to suicide in October 2012\, after Amanda suffered severe cyberbullying and sextortion. Carol has received numerous honours for her advocacy for cyberbully prevention\, digital safety\, and youth mental health support\, including the King Charles III Coronation Medal and Meritorious Service Cross awarded by the Governor General of Canada\, UBC Alumni Educator of the Year Award\, L’Oreal Paris Canada Women of Worth Award\, and was nominated for a Women of Distinction Award from YWCA BC.
