Donations to Marlene Bird and Family

Tuesday, 17 June 2014

As you may have heard, a Prince Albert woman named Marlene Bird was brutally attacked on June 1, 2014 in Prince Albert and transferred to the University of Alberta hospital here in Edmonton for treatment.

YWCA Edmonton has been in touch with Marlene and her family, who have come out to Edmonton to support Marlene in her recovery. We have been assisting family members with food cards and gas cards and are willing to offer our counselling services if required.

YWCA Prince Albert is accepting donations for Marlene and her family through their donations website at https://www.canadahelps.org/dn/15937

My heart goes out to you. It's hard to believe someone could be so sick as to hurt you like this. I wish you lots of courage and strength and all my good wishes.

I have no words for the tremendous strength you have to have been able to survive everything you've been through. That said, none of these things should have ever happened to you. It's not right, it's not fair, and I for one will help see to it that nothing bad ever happens to you again.

I am so saddened by what has happened to you. I lost a brother a few years ago & he was homeless as well due to alcoholism after being severely burned by gasoline that caught fire when he was a young boy. You did not deserve this. No one deserves this. The world needs a big dose of empathy. Stay strong. Not everyone is this cruel.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Marlene as you go through this very difficult time. You are a strong and courageous woman. Stay strong and know that many people who don't even know you are thinking of you and sending you positive thoughts and energy.

I don't know where to begin to say I am so sorry for what happened to you. My heart breaks for this atrocity and violence against you and other women. You need to tell your story. I will be praying for you and Pray that my donation will be multiplied a thousand fold!!
